Outside Conferences

The Office of Undergraduate Research coordinates travel and financial support for students to participate in the conferences listed below (must be an NC State-enrolled undergraduate student in good academic standing enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours). Additionally, speak with your mentor or the OUR about disciplinary conferences where you can present. The OUR offers Travel Awards to help cover the costs for undergraduate presenters for these events.

State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium

Colleges, universities, and community colleges in North Carolina host a symposium each year to showcase N.C. undergraduate student research and creative work. SNCURCS (pronounced as ‘snickers’) provides undergraduate scholars in all fields a forum to share the results of their work through posters, presentations, performances, and works of art.

NC State’s Office of Undergraduate Research will cover registration fees, poster printing, and arrange travel to/from SNCURCS for selected NC State presenters. Students seeking OUR support for SNCURCS participation must first fill out the SNCURCS Financial Assistance Request Form for consideration (Deadline September 30, 2025 9:00 a.m.).

State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium

If you’re a sophomore in North Carolina, you’re also eligible for the George Barthalmus Undergraduate Research Award to support ongoing undergraduate research.

Participation Requirements and Interest Form Fields

Students for whom the Office of Undergraduate Research covers registrations fees, poster printing, and/or any associated travel to SNCURCS, are expected to present their original research, engage with fellow participants from other schools, support their fellow Wolfpack presenters, and behave in a professional manner.

The SNCURCS Interest Form requests the following:

  • Lead Presenter Information (name, email, ID, phone number, department, college, and anticipated graduation date)
  • Co-presenter Information (name, email, ID, and department)
  • Mentor Information (name and email) + department (for NC State Mentors) or institution/company and job title (for non-NC State Mentors)
  • Presentation Information (type and title)

ACC Meeting of the Minds

The ACC Meeting of the Minds is an annual research conference celebrating undergraduate research and creative inquiry at the Atlantic Coast Conference member schools. It highlights undergraduate excellence in research and creative scholarship across many fields, and as such students from all disciplines are welcome. Each year, each institution is represented at the ACC Meeting of the Minds by 5 undergraduate student presenters.

Undergraduate researchers who presented at ACC Meeting of the Minds in Virginia are lined up outside holding their posters and conference swag.  The swag includes matching orange and white umbrellas protecting the student presenters in the light rain.

NC State undergraduate researchers who are interested in presenting at ACC MotM must complete the ACC Meeting of the Minds OUR Speaker Application (Application Window: October 27-December 8, 2025 9:00 a.m.). Selected students will have their registration fees, poster printing, and travel expenses fully covered.

ACC Meeting of the Minds

April 10-12, 2026

The OUR will make all hotel and travel arrangements, and the hosting institution will arrange meals.

Previous attendees are not eligible for future ACC MotM events.

Participation Requirements and Application Fields

Students who are selected to present at ACC Meeting of the Minds, are expected to attend OUR-hosted presentation practice sessions, present their original research, engage with fellow participants from other schools, support their fellow Wolfpack presenters, and behave in a professional manner.

The ACC Meeting of the Minds OUR Speaker Application requests the following:

  • Applicant Information (name, email, ID, phone number, department, college, and anticipated graduation date)
  • Mentor Information (name and email) + department (for NC State Mentors) or institution/company and job title (for non-NC State Mentors)
  • List of Previous Oral and Poster Presentations Outside of NC State Events (titles, conference name, location, and dates)
  • Response (1 paragraph minimum) to the Following Prompt
    • Explain why you wish to attend this meeting, include what you expect to gain from presenting and how presenting will affect your plans for the future (i.e. grad school, career).
  • Presentation Information (type and title)
  • PDF of Abstract
    • Use the file naming format, “Last Name, First Name_ACC MotM Year Abstract”
    • Selected students will be able to update their abstract before final submission to the hosting institution.
  • In addition to the application form, applicants need a letter of recommendation from their research mentor* emailed to undergraduate-research@ncsu.edu, by the application deadline, advocating for the applicant’s participation. *Must be a faculty or staff member, not a graduate student or postdoc.

National Conference on Undergraduate Research

NCUR is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity in all fields of study. This conference offers a unique environment for the celebration and promotion of undergraduate student achievement; provides models of exemplary research, scholarship, and creative activity; and offers student career readiness.

Please list Mrs. Jennifer Keeney (undergraduate-research@ncsu.edu) as your Campus Coordinator when submitting your abstract.

NOTICE: Due to current state funding uncertainties and their, as of yet, unknown impact to our annual budget, the Office of Undergraduate Research may not be able to offer our full level of NCUR support (described below). Applicants should be prepared to find alternative sources of funding in case the OUR’s annual budget is no longer able to sustain this support.

Students who receive OUR support to present at NCUR, are expected to attend OUR-hosted presentation practice sessions, present their original research, engage with fellow participants from other schools, support their fellow Wolfpack presenters, behave in a professional manner, and complete a reflection assignment based on their experience overall and from attending a given number of oral and poster presentations each day of the conference.

The NCUR OUR Travel Award Application requests the following information:

  • Applicant Information (name, email, ID, phone number, department, college, and anticipated graduation date)
  • Mentor Information (name and email) + department (for NC State Mentors) or institution/company and job title (for non-NC State Mentors)
  • List of Previous Oral and Poster Presentations Outside of NC State Events (titles, conference name, location, and dates)

World Congress on Undergraduate Research

WorldCUR promotes undergraduate research in all disciplines. The Congress meets periodically once every three years at a different global university. Undergraduates of all levels are invited to submit an abstract to the Congress. Abstracts are peer-reviewed and those accepted will be invited to attend the Congress.
