  • Many departments and colleges across the campus offer research-related funding to their students. In addition to the list below, students should check with their department to learn more about opportunities available to them.

    • Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering’s Departmental Research Experience for Undergraduates
    • Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering’s Undergraduate Research Scholars Program
• Summer Research Programs
  • The Office of Undergraduate Research lists summer research programs based at NC State and provides additional programming support for them. These opportunities provide student participants with funding, networking opportunities, professional development, and research experience.
• Research Abroad Scholarships
  • Students interested in traveling away/abroad to conduct research should check out the Study Abroad Office’s NC State Scholarships and Arcadia Abroad’s Scholarships and Funding.
• Beckman Scholars Program
  • The Beckman Scholars Program is a 15-month mentored research experience for exceptional undergraduate students in chemistry, biological sciences, or interdisciplinary combinations thereof.
• Comparative Medicine Institute’s Maximizing Access to Research Careers Program
  • The CMI-based Maximizing Access to Research Careers (CMI-MARC) Undergraduate Research Fellowship provides interdisciplinary research training to research focused students from a breadth of backgrounds who have a strong interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in the Biomedical field. 
• Sustainability Fund
  • The NC State Sustainability Fund offers grants to current students, faculty and staff who propose high-impact experiences (e.g. research) for students while advancing sustainability at NC State. 

External Funding

• George Barthalmus Undergraduate Research Award
  • Available to sophomores in North Carolina.
    • Named in honor of Dr. George T. Barthalmus, the first director of NC State’s Office of Undergraduate Research and a key creator of the State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium.
