Join OUR Team
The Office of Undergraduate Research hires undergraduate students with research experience to provide peer mentoring to fellow undergraduates interested in research (Research Ambassadors) and hires motivated undergraduate students (with or without research experience) to assist the office team with critical 'behind the scenes' support and with special projects (Office Assistants).
Responsibilities
Research Ambassador
- Attend and present at student organization and classroom talks, Experience NC State student services fair, New Student Orientation, Wolfpack Welcome Week, University Open House, and other on-campus events and fairs. These are sometimes held after office hours or on weekends.
- Host How to Get Started in Research Zoom Workshop sessions on a rotating schedule for interested students.
- Hold office hours (approximately 2-5 hours per week) where students will be able to stop in to talk and ask questions about undergraduate research.
- Serve as an informal resource to the office, students, faculty, and other stakeholders
- Assist with office tasks when not meeting with students during scheduled office hours.
- Contribute to a positive work environment that values idea sharing and supporting coworkers.
- Various other tasks as assigned.
Office Assistant
- Organize internal files such as program files, photos, standard operating procedures, etc.
- Requires attention to detail as well as user-oriented planning.
- Create templates for social media campaigns, TV billboards, flyers, newsletters, etc.
- Must be done in accordance with NC State brand guidelines.
- Organize physical office supplies such as marketing materials for student-oriented events, poster boards and stands, and Sidewalk Symposium materials.
- Assist in the loaning and retrieval of poster boards and stands that the office loans to campus colleagues.
- Includes pulling boards and stands out of storage for borrowers to pick up and then replacing back into storage once returned by borrowers (will not include any delivery to or pick up from borrower’s events).
- Includes evaluating the status of our current inventory and noting any items in need of repair/replacement.
- Help with Office of Undergraduate Research events.
- Includes helping office staff transport and set up boards and stands.
- Includes managing the registration/check-in tables.
- Includes taking attendance.
- Includes helping in the creation of abstract books and the organization of sessions.
- As the need arises, work on one or more special projects to support the office’s goals.
- Depending on the interests of the office assistant, these may be set up as research projects.
- Contribute to a positive work environment that values idea sharing and supporting coworkers.
- Various other office tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
Research Ambassador
- Be a current undergraduate student enrolled at NC State in good academic standing.
- Have at least 1 full year of undergraduate research/creative inquiry experience at NC State.
- Be actively conducting research or creative inquiry/scholarly works.
- Commit to attending training at the beginning of each semester.
Office Assistant
- Be a current undergraduate student enrolled at NC State in good academic standing.
- Commit to attend professional development and training as needed to learn new skills related to the tasks at hand.
- Possess the ability to lift and transport objects up to 25 pounds for various office needs.
- Commit to regular hours (5-10) each week.

Pay & Benefits
- $15.00/hour paid bi-weekly as a university student employee (with Federal Work-Study or Provost’s Professional Experience Program option as desired and available).
- Skill development related to assigned tasks (e.g. communication/presentation, data management, etc.)
