Symposia Abstract Books

Each year, the Office of Undergraduate Research hosts three symposia celebrating undergraduate research from across the campus. For each symposium we create an abstract book-a collection of summaries of the student presenters' projects. We invite you to peruse our recent events' abstract books and enjoy the range of projects.

Advice for Students

Searching through past abstract books can be a great way to come up with ideas for your own research, explore the range of your interests, and identify potential faculty mentors.

Use “ctrl F” (or Command F on a mac) to do a keyword search in these digital files to pull up summaries of interest. Choose a variety of keywords from your areas of interest for the best success.

When you find a project of interest, you’ll learn several key things.

  • Who the presenter’s faculty mentor is, no matter their college or department.
  • That that faculty mentor is open to working with undergraduate researchers.
  • The type of research that faculty mentor does. Even if work on that particular project isn’t available, the other projects in the group will fall under the same general scope.
  • Who the student researcher is.
    • They may be willing to answer your questions about how they got started with their mentor and offer any guidance. You may be able to take over the project if the presenter has already or is graduating soon, or they were visiting just for the summer.
