Summer Undergraduate Research & Creativity Symposium

Undergraduate researchers from across the campus and visiting from across the country share their hard work (at any stage in the process) through printed and digital posters and via interactive digital displays.

Co-hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research and University Libraries

Target Audience

Everyone is welcome to come and explore the range of research projects presented by NC State and visiting undergraduates. All fields are represented. In particular, students who are curious to get involved in research are encouraged to attend and ask questions. This is a great opportunity to see the many forms of research, brainstorm ideas, and network with other students. Friends and family of presenters, plus community members are especially welcome to come and support the these budding researchers. We love to have you visit!

Abstract Submission Process

To participate, fill out the Summer Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposiuam Abstract Submission Form by no later than June 27, 2025 11:59 P.M. In order to process submissions and schedule details of the symposium, we cannot accept late submissions. Forms will open May 27, 2025.

Due to planned power outages during summer 2025 that will impact DH Hill Jr Library, the summer symposium will be held in a different location and will not have the capabilities for digital posters or interactive displays. All presenters will need to create printed posters. We will return to DH Hill Jr Library in 2026.

You will be asked to provide the following:

  • Presenter Information (name, email, and affiliation) + ID for NC State students
  • Co-presenter Information (name, email, and affiliation) + ID for NC State students
  • Mentor Information (name, email, and affiliation)
  • Presentation preference (digital poster or printed poster)

  • Funding Program Name or Associated Class/Group (if relevant)

Class, Group, or Program Participation

We welcome instructors and group/program leads advertising the Summer Symposium to their students as an optional activity in which to participate or visit. If you would like to integrate the Summer Symposium into your course, group, or program as a required activity in which to participate we ask that you please reach out to us (undergraduate-research@ncsu.edu) as soon as possible so that we can work together on the best outcome for all parties.

FAQs

Over the course of several 45 min-1 hour long sessions, student participants will present their research while visitors walk around and ask questions. Presenters stand near their posters to engage with visitors as they stop by. Students who are curious about getting started in research are especially encouraged to attend and ask questions. Presenters enjoy sharing their experiences and advice.

Yes, projects at any stage (even the beginning) are welcome!

The Office of Undergraduate Research periodically hosts workshops on crafting research presentions. Additionally, you can look over our online research presentation resources. Lastly, you can meet with someone from our office to go over your presentation and provide feedback.

Yes, we recommend using NC State’s research poster templates. For Office of Undergraduate Research events, please select the template that is 48 inches wide and 36 inches heigh. Please use only NC State official branding for logos, color palettes, etc.

In order to fit on our poster boards, posters should be no wider than 48 inches and no taller than 36 inches.

Once the Office of Undergraduate Research confirms mentor approval of all submitted abstracts, we submit the names and IDs of all accepted student presenters (lead presenters only) to our campus printing partner, CALS IT.

Student leads are responsible for submitting their poster to CALS IT with enough time to be printed before the symposium. CALS IT lists approximate print times at the top of their website, but students are encouraged to allow extra time due to the high volume of requests at this time of year. Students are also responsible for picking up their poster and bringing it to the symposium.

Students may only submit once per project, per OUR event, for printing through CALS IT. Any reprints or printing done by other entities (such as in the event a student misses the window for printing with CALS IT) is at the cost of the student.

Students who miss the printing window with CALS IT must find an alternative printer on their own and will have to pay the associated costs. We recommend Wolf Xpress or FedEx Office.

D.H. Hill Jr. Library provides parking information for guests and directions for those who need accessible routes.
