The Office of Undergraduate Research supports students throughout their entire undergradaute research journey. Research Ambassadors are available to students' most common questions while staff members can other questions, concerns, or challenges.
Meet with a Research Ambassador
Undergraduate Research Ambassadors are fellow undergraduate students who have been engaged in research for a year or more at NC State and trained by the Office of Undergraduate Research to answer the most common questions students who are curious about research have.

- learn more about what undergraduate research entails.
- get one-on-one guidance on how to start research.
- get feedback on draft letters for potential mentors.
- troubleshoot any problems with getting started.
- get feedback on abstracts to present research.
To meet with a Research Ambassador, students can schedule a meeting via Navigate (instructions below) or drop by the office during posted drop-in hours (listed below).
- Click the “Student Services” button.
- Select the “Office of Undergraduate Research”.
- Select “OUR Student Ambassador Appointment”.
- Select an appointment time (available openings will appear after you make a selection from the grid).
- View confirmation details and click “confirm”.
Note: Research Ambassadors are unavailable for meetings in-between terms and at the start of the summer (May through early June). If you are attempting to schedule a meeting during these times, please return to Navigate in the new term or later in June to see availabilities.
Summer 2025 Drop-In Hours: Due to the summer closure of D.H Hill Jr. Library, we will only be offering virtual appointments. Please check Navigate for available days/times.
Fall 2025 Drop-In Hours: Thank you for your patience. We are still arranging drop-in hours around our Research Ambassadors’ availabilities and will be posting them shortly after the start of the fall term.

Meet with a Staff Member
Staff in the Office of Undergraduate Research have a lot of experience both in conducting research and in mentoring students in research. They are prepared to assist students with a wide range of questions, concerns, and challenges.
Meet with a Staff Member to…
- address matters not covered in the Getting Started in Research online section/ambassador meetings/workshops.
- get guidance on how to improve their mentor-mentee relationship, or to navigate a challenging situation.
- get guidance on transitioning into a new project or research group.
- share concerns related to a research project, group, or space.
- get guidance on applying to graduate school and/or research scholarships.
- get feedback on research presentations.
