Opportunities to Present Your Research
- African American Culture Center’s Symposium on Afrofuturism and Diasporic Scholarship
- Undergraduate students of any background and from all research areas are encouraged to consider how their work ties into the themes of this symposium. Undergraduate researchers can present digital posters and/or propose an oral presentation or other activity to engage with attendees.
- The Office of Undergraduate Research strongly encourages students in any field to attend the Symposium on Afrofuturism and Diasporic Scholarship to experience a unique conference style that particularly excels at community engagement.
- Global One Health Academy’s One Health Research Symposium
- Undergraduate researchers from all research areas are encouraged to consider how their work ties into the framework of this symposium—infectious disease; food and water solutions; and climate change and health disparities. Undergraduate researchers can present a printed poster.
- KIETS Climate Leaders Program’s Fall Symposium
- Undergraduate researchers investigating climate change and solutions can present a printed poster. Printing costs can be covered.
Opportunities to Use Your Research Skills
- Department of English’s Fiction Contest*
- In this competition, undergraduates submit their original piece of fiction writing.
- Department of English’s Poetry Contest*
- In this competition, undergraduates submit their original poetry in any genre and of any length.

- In all genres and styles, authors need to know how their work compares to what else is out there, need to research the references their work makes, and need to craft their message in a manner that is relatable and accessible to their audience.

- In this competition, undergraduates submit their original poetry in any genre and of any length.
- Hack_NCState
- In this competition, undergraduates work in teams to tackle challenges using technology. Participants of all levels of technical expertise are welcome, and students can enter without already being a part of a team.
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s Entrepalooza
- This festival includes the Minute to Pitch It Competition wherein student entrepreneurs have one minute to pitch their idea.
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s VenturePack Challenge
- In this competition, undergraduates work in teams to advance their entrepreneurial ideas—being judged on financial strategy, market feasibility, etc.
- The N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative’s Hackathon
- In this competition, undergraduates work in teams to tackle real-world challenges at the intersection of agriculture, technology, and data science. Participants of all levels of programming expertise are welcome, and students can enter without already being a part of team.
- The Sustainability Office’s Make-A-Thon
- In this competition, undergraduates work in cross-disciplinary teams to develop solutions to sustainability challenges.
