How I got started: I started my research by exploring different departments and learning more about the projects being conducted. I then reached out to the heads of labs that were doing research that I was interested in to learn more and see if there was a position available.
My current research: I am currently an undergraduate research assistant within the Department of Population Health and Pathobiology at the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine. Our research is investigating if vaccination for Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) improves immune coverage of chickens when administered a vectored vaccine in-ovo.
My #1 tip: Do not get discouraged! When reaching out to labs, it may be difficult to obtain a response but be sure to contact multiple labs that you are interested in and be persistent. Also, do not be afraid to reach out to a lab that is conducting research that you are not currently familiar with. You will definitely gain knowledge and experience that can be applied to your future at NC State and beyond.
